Venice Film Festival: ‘Dune’ receives an eight-minute standing ovation at the world premiere

Dune receives eight minute standing ovation

On Friday, Denis Villeneuve’s latest movie Dune had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. At the ceremony, Dune received an eight-minute standing ovation. The forthcoming American epic science fiction film is based on Frank Herbert’s eponymous science fiction novel.

Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, were present. Many other celebrities also attended the event. Chalamet played the protagonist in the film. According to ANI, he also garnered the greatest clapping and cheers from the audience around the cinema.

Dune receives eight minute standing ovation

The film received a loud standing ovation for an uninterrupted eight minutes. It was following its international premiere at the Venice Film Festival. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oscar winner Chloe Zhao hurried down the aisle. It was to greet the Dune filmmaker and exclaimed, “Fantastic!”. Zhao was also a member of the festival’s competition jury this year.

The premier of Dune took place in Sala Grande in Venice. A few audience members managed to enjoy a warm and spacious evening. Because of the pandemic, the regular capacity of 1,200 people shot down to 600. The eagerly anticipated movie will premiere in Europe on September 15. Also in the United States on October 22 in theatres and on HBO Max.

The Power of the Dog, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Kirsten Dunst, was recently in the headlines; after making an impression on the audience at the Venice Film Festival. The film garnered a four-minute standing ovation, according to Variety. It is also the Oscars’ launching pad. Benedict Cumberbatch, an actor, could be vying for an Academy Award. Also, this isn’t the first time the actor has been nominated for a similar award. In 2014, he was nominated for an Academy Award for his outstanding performance in The Imitation Game. The Power of the Dog is going to show the era of 1920 and will be then based on Thomas Savage’s novel. Also, Jesse Plemons will act opposite Cumberbatch and Dunst in the film.
