UAE changes rules for movie-goers
The United Arab Emirates Media regulatory Office announced that it will soon start a 21+ age category in the motion picture content rating system, According to it, movies screened will be the international versions. This means that certain scenes previously deemed questionable will not be edited out.
The UAE’s censorship law “blocks websites, cuts kissing and sex scenes from films and certain satellite TV channels, and blurs the names of dishes that contain non-halal foods, like pork and bacon, on episodes of Masterchef”. Hence, this move is making a lot of new changes. Additionally, the nation also added that the government offices will be adapting a four-and-a-half workday, treating Saturday and Sunday and a weekend from 2022. The move will align the nation’s holidays with that of the western week.
