Tom Cruise's daughter drops 'Cruise' and adopts mother's middle name

Suri Cruise, the daughter of Hollywood icons Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, has officially dropped her father’s surname. The 18-year-old recently graduated from LaGuardia High School, adopting the name “Suri Noelle.” This name change was also used earlier in the year during a school production of the play ‘Head Over Heels.’ “Noelle” is Katie Holmes’ middle name, as reported by Page Six.

Complex family dynamics

Tom Cruise was reportedly absent from Suri’s graduation weekend, opting instead to attend Taylor Swift’s Eras tour in London, where he is filming the next ‘Mission: Impossible’ installment.

The relationship between Tom Cruise and his children, particularly Suri, has been fraught with complexity since his 2012 divorce from Katie Holmes. Despite rumors of estrangement, Cruise vehemently denied abandoning his daughter in any way—emotionally, physically, financially, or otherwise. In a 2013 defamation lawsuit, he called these claims “patently false.”

The ‘Jack Reacher’ actor stated that he “spoke on the phone nearly every day” with Suri, who was then 6 years old, and that he “regularly asked for and received updates concerning her friends and school life.”

Other family ties

Tom Cruise, now 61, also has two adopted children, Isabella and Connor, from his previous marriage to Nicole Kidman. He was seen in public with them last year, reportedly for the first time in 15 years.

Trend among celebrity children

Suri’s decision to drop her father’s surname follows a recent trend among celebrity offspring. Just weeks ago, Brad Pitt’s children, Shiloh and Vivienne, also abandoned their famous surname, now going by Shiloh Nouvel Jolie and Vivienne Jolie, respectively.
