‘The Wheel of Time’ is an adaptation of Robert Jordan’s best-selling fantasy novels. It has become Amazon Prime Video’s most-watched series premiere on Amazon. The show, which stars British actress Rosamund Pike, premiered on November 19. In a recent interview, Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke confirmed the news.
Uproxx’s reports state, Wheel Of Time’s first episode, “Leavetaking,” has now become Amazon’s most-watched premiere of the year. And one of its top five launches of all time. Wheel Of Time feels splashy and grandiose, in contrast to, for example, this year’s rather tawdry launch of the also-Amazon-produced I Know What You Did Last Summer.
One of the Top 5 series launches of all time
“We can firmly say that Wheel of Time was the most-watched series premiere of the year. And certainly one of the Top 5 series launches of all time for Prime Video,” informs Salke to Deadline. She adds, “a bit of the door opening to the robust content slate that was delayed all coming together in 2022-23.” “The (as-yet-unreleased) extensive content slate” Salke was alluding to The Lord of the Rings. It will be available on the streaming service in September.
The studio as a result has spent a whopping $1 billion on the five-season show! As a result, the show, based on JRR Tolkien’s literature, is the most costly deal for a television outing. The first season’s filming was completed in early August of this year. Returning to The Wheel of Time, the first three episodes were released on Prime Video last week. Pike stars in the show as Moiraine, a member of a prominent women’s group who embarks on a voyage around the world with four other people. The first season will consist of eight episodes, with the remaining three being released every week until December 24th of this year.
