In every TV show, there’s generally (at least) one character who gets under your skin and rubs you the wrong way. It happens all the time. There’s nothing unusual about that. However, now and again, a TV character appears to be universally despised for whatever reason. (texasautotrim.com) When things get really bad, those characters become lightning rods of hatred, the focal point for supporters and haters alike, who vent their frustrations and scrutinize everything they do because they’re simply so unlikable. Here are some of the most hated TV characters of all time.
Most hated TV characters
Andy Bernard (The Office)
Everyone in The Office thought the same thing about Andy Bernard: such a complete moron. He first appeared in season three, when Jim relocated to the Stamford branch to get away from Pam, and therefore became Jim’s new object to toy with—until Andy displays a nasty temper.
Andy softened during the series, but he never ceased being the man who sang a lot and looked dumb. Fans ironically flocked to Andy Bernard, understanding that his role on the show was to play the man who everyone else believed was insane. Not to mention the later seasons, when Andy Bernard devolved into a gigantic jerk with little redeeming qualities.
Ross Geller (Friends)
Ross Geller is the character who has always been (apparently) treated unfairly by others. He, on the other hand, was a genuine pain; whether it was with Rachel when they were on a “break” or with Chandler and Joey when they were making too much noise in their own apartment.
Even if he had that one unique episode where he put on a tuxedo and was willing to escort a devastated Rachel to prom, Ross didn’t have many nice moments in Friends. When you peel back the comedy, most people perceive Ross to be a normal “good guy”. Overall, Ross lacked the appeal of other Friends characters. The entire group of Friends comes across as whining in retrospect—except for Phoebe Buffay, of course.
Ted Mosby (How I Met Your Mother)
When the majority of a TV sitcom’s following grows tired of the lead character after only two seasons, it usually doesn’t bode well for the show. However, what about How I Met Your Mother? It appeared to give the show a competitive edge.
Ted Mosby gradually grew monotonous due to his repeated diatribes about finding the proper person while being too whiny in the process. Fortunately for us, as Ted became more obnoxious, the rest of the ensemble became more likable.
When How I Met Your Mother came to an end, many people thought that the program had lasted much too long. Also, the ending was unsatisfactory—mostly because no one cared about Ted anymore.
Skylar White (Breaking Bad)
Although she was rarely in the wrong—save for a few off-kilter decisions—Skylar White became the most despised character in Breaking Bad. She was always a hindrance to Walter’s illicit activities while profiting from them.
Throughout the show, Skylar was typically the voice of reason, and she merely wanted to protect her family from harm. We (the audience) perceived Skylar as a nuisance because we (the audience) wanted to see Walter do something unpleasant. It’s a fascinating concept to consider.
The final scene between Walt and Skylar demonstrated how much had changed from the beginning to the end of the series. There was nothing left but hatred between Skylar and Walt, which reflected how the audience felt about Skylar.
Janice Soprano (The Sopranos)
Tony Soprano’s sister, Janice, was often referred to as a “harmonic healer”. But beneath that pleasant exterior, she struggled with the same anger issues as Tony, albeit without the latter’s endearing qualities.
The entire show endeared viewers to Tony and his difficulties. It thus made Janice extremely agitated when she chastised him for his actions. Janice embodied all of her mother’s flaws, and the audience despised her for it.
The underlying issue with Janice is that she was a hypocrite who frequently chastised Tony for his actions while herself becoming entangled.
Arturo (Money Heist)
So, there are a lot of characters in Money Heist whom fans despise. However, none of the characters were able to garner the same level of animosity as Arturo Román. If the social media verdict is to be believed, he is the most despised figure. His dislike has grown from season one to season four.
Monica’s pregnancy was disputed by Arturo, who later professed to love her. He then put Monica and Alison’s lives, as well as the lives of the other captives, in jeopardy. He morphed into a sexual predator during the second theft. After drugging Amanda, he raped her.
Arturo offered his medications to Manilla after rapping Amanda, although he had no idea she was working undercover for the robbers. Even after his horrible activities were uncovered, he sought to play the gallant savior. The governor, among the hostages, grew more afraid of him than of the robbers. Fans, I suppose, have plenty of reasons to have him as one of the most hated TV characters.
