Spider-Man: No Way Home becomes second biggest opener at US box office, beating ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

According to the most recent box office data, Spider-Man: No Way Home has officially clinched the second biggest opener at the US box office of all time. Spider-Man: No Way Home is the third MCU solo film focusing on Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. It picks up right where Spider-Man: Far From Home left off in 2019. It is directed by Jon Watt.

Desperate to regain his anonymity, Peter seeks the help of Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) for a spell that can undo what has happened. When things go horribly wrong, Peter is forced to deal with a slew of villains from alternate universes who all share one common enemy: Peter Parker. Spider-Man: No Way Home was easily the most anticipated film of the year before its release. Fans were captivated by the multiverse premise, which allowed previous franchise actors such as Alfred Molina and Willem Dafoe to join the MCU. And now that the film is out, fans are going gaga over it.

As per a new Sony update, Spider-Man: No Way Home earned $260 million in its first weekend across 4,336 locations in the United States. This is the second-highest opening weekend in history. Trailing behind is Avengers: Infinity War with is $257 million. The only film that comes before it is Avengers: Endgame. No Way Home gained 121.925 million on Friday. $73.9 million on Saturday. And $64.175 on Sunday, when broken down by day. This is the biggest opening for any Spider-Man film and the entire month of December.

The performance of Spider-Man: No Way Home is remarkable. Especially given the current state of the coronavirus pandemic. For months, the domestic box office has taken hesitant steps toward normalcy. But overall earnings for the year are still significantly lower than in 2019. Before No Way Home, no film had grossed more than $100 million since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. While many people will most likely want to watch it again, it’s safe to determine that the overall size of No Way Home’s audience will begin to shrink in the coming weeks. Nonetheless, this is a truly remarkable accomplishment.
