Shakira moves out of Barcelona with sons after splitting with Gerard Pique

On Monday (April 3), Shakira posted on Instagram about leaving Barcelona with her sons to begin a new chapter outside of Spain. She posted the remark months after her divorce from Spanish footballer Gerard Pique. The couple had been married for 11 years and had two boys, Milan, 10, and Sasha, 8. Shakira showed a gorgeous photo of Barcelona in her sad update, writing that she is leaving the country with her sons to begin a “new chapter in the pursuit of their happiness.”

“I settled in Barcelona to give my children a stability, the same we are now looking for in another corner of the world next to family, friends, and the sea. Today we start a new chapter in the pursuit of their happiness (translated to English),” the 46-year-old singer wrote.

“Thank you to everyone who surfed alongside me so many waves there in Barcelona, the city where I learned that friendship is certainly longer than love,” she said of the city’s friendships.

“Thank you to everyone who has been there to cheer me up, dried my tears, inspired me, and made me grow. Also thank you to my Spanish audience who have always wrapped me in their love and loyalty,” the singer said, referring to people who encouraged her and helped her grow.

“For you, simply a see you later, and like my father always said, see you around the curves,” she signed off her note.

Shakira’s decision comes nearly ten months after her tumultuous divorce from former FC Barcelona star Gerard Pique in June 2022.

On Instagram Stories, the singer also provided a view of the city from outside the plane and said (translated to English), “But, things do not always go as planned. We try to run but never get there. Don’t worry, I’ll always be here.”

Shakira released a song called TQG earlier this year in which she slammed Gerard Pique for cheating on her with Clara Chia Marti.
