The security guard who recently made headlines for a confrontation with Kelly Rowland at the 77th Cannes Film Festival is now involved in another viral incident. This time, the altercation took place with Dominican actress Massiel Taveras on the iconic red carpet.
Tense moment on the Palais des Festivals staircase
Footage circulating on social media shows Taveras, wearing a stunning white gown with a long train, in a heated exchange with the female security guard on the staircase of the Palais des Festivals. As Taveras moved up the red carpet, the guard gestured for her to proceed. Attempting to arrange her dress, Taveras appeared to push the guard’s arm away after a brief verbal exchange.
The video, posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), captures the tension as the security guard persistently directed Taveras up the stairs. Taveras, visibly frustrated, pushed the guard’s arm away multiple times while exchanging heated words. Despite the interruption, Taveras managed to wave at fans before being urged again by the guard to move along.
Echoes of the Kelly Rowland incident
This incident follows closely on the heels of a similar altercation between the same security guard and Kelly Rowland during the premiere of “Marcello Mio.” Rowland addressed the incident at the amfAR Cannes Gala on May 23, explaining her stance on the matter.
“The woman knows what happened. I know what happened,” Rowland told the Associated Press. “I have a boundary, and I stand by those boundaries, and that is it.”
Rowland also highlighted a perceived discrepancy in treatment, stating, “There were other women that attended that carpet who did not quite look like me, and they didn’t get scolded, pushed off or told to get off. I stood my ground, and she felt like she had to stand hers, but I stood my ground.”
Festival’s high-profile appearances
Throughout the festival, the red carpet has hosted numerous high-profile appearances, including Meryl Streep, Sebastian Stan, and “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” stars Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky.
The 77th Cannes Film Festival, which began on May 14, concluded with the announcement of the jury’s awards, including the prestigious Palme d’Or, at its closing ceremony on May 25.
