Following a tumultuous few months that saw the Golden Globes reduced to live-tweeting and the Critics Choice Awards pushed back to March, the SAG Awards found itself in a significant position. They certainly became the first televised presentation of the Oscar season on Sunday this year. At Sunday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards, the touching Sundance Film Festival hit “CODA” earned the best ensemble.
Will Smith bagged the best actor male award for his phenomenal performance in King Richard. Will acknowledged the honor, saying, “one of the greatest moments of my career right now; being called for ‘King Richard’ sitting next to Venus Williams.”
Chastain won best female actor in a film for “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.” “I’m completely stunned,” said the actress. Speaking to her fellow thespians, she said “For those of you who are struggling and feel unseen; you are one job away. I promise.”
Troy Kotsur becomes first deaf actor to win at SAG Awards
Marlee Matlin accepted the SAG award for best ensemble with her co-stars from “CODA.” Troy Kotsur, won the best male supporting actor in a film for his role in “CODA.” He made history by becoming the first deaf actor to receive a SAG award. Ariana DeBose, on the other hand, is the first Latina actor to win a film award, as well as the first openly LGBT woman of color to win a SAG award.
However, in terms of television, “Succession” and “Ted Lasso” were titled best casts. While Lee Jung-jae and HoYeon Jung of “Squid Game” were named best performers. “I have sat many times watching you on the big screen dreaming of one day becoming an actor,” Jung told the crowd. HBO’s Succession eventually won in the best drama series category.
