Rupert Murdoch used brief email to end marriage with Jerry Hall

According to The Guardian, Rupert Murdoch, the Australian-born media billionaire, divorced his fourth wife, Jerry Hall, in an 11-word email, telling her, “We certainly had some good times, but I have much to do.” The 92-year-old and his fourth wife divorced in August 2022, after six years of marriage. Ms. Hall received the unexpected email when she was waiting for her husband at their home in Oxfordshire.

As per the outlet, the email stated, “Jerry, sadly I’ve decided to call an end to our marriage.” He added a footnote and said, “We certainly had some good times, but I have much to do … My New York lawyer will be contacting yours immediately.”

Vanity Fair revealed details of the couple’s final days in a new article on relationships and power struggles in the Murdoch family. Friends of Ms. Hall reported in the story that she was “devastated, mad, and humiliated” after caring for Mr. Murdoch through a succession of health concerns and being isolated with him throughout the Covid-19 outbreak.

According to the article, Ms. Hall claimed that “Rupert and I never fought” aside from minor disagreements about politics. She also informed her pals that she had been given 30 days to vacate the couple’s Bel Air property. Ms. Hall went on to say that she needed to create invoices to prove that the items she was removing were hers.

Mr. Murdoch was sighted in Barbados with Ann Lesley Smith, to whom he proposed on March 17 in New York City, months after his divorce from Ms. Hall was finalized. However, the couple abruptly broke off their engagement a few days ago.

From his first three marriages, Mr. Murdoch has six children. For six years, he was married to Ms. Hall. From 1999 to 2013, he was married to Wendi Deng; from 1967 to 1999, he was married to Anna Maria Torv; and from 1956 to 1967, he was married to Patricia Booker.

According to Forbes, the Chairman and CEO of News Corp. is worth over $17 billion. His empire includes Fox News, the Wall Street Journal, and a slew of other global media properties.
