Rapper Wiz Khalifa accused of cannabis possession in Romania

Criminal proceedings have been initiated against rapper Wiz Khalifa after he allegedly smoked a cannabis joint onstage at a concert in Romania. The country’s special directorate for organized crime and terrorism reported that a U.S. citizen was being investigated for “unlawful possession of drugs.”

Details of the Incident

The incident occurred during a music festival in the Black Sea resort town of Costinești. Authorities stated that the suspect consumed the drug on stage in the form of a “craft cigarette” and was found with over 18 grams of cannabis. Although not explicitly named in the official statement, Khalifa appeared to admit the act on social media.

Khalifa’s Response

In a post on X, Khalifa, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, wrote, “I didn’t mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up on stage. They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But without a big a** joint next time.”

Khalifa, known for his cannabis references in his lyrics and social media presence, was performing at the Beach Please! Festival in Costinești. The festival’s Instagram page shared videos of his performance over the weekend. Previously, Khalifa admitted on X that he was “stoned” before throwing the first pitch at a Pittsburgh Pirates game last July.

Romanian legal context

Romanian authorities have not specified whether Khalifa was detained or charged, but recreational use of cannabis is illegal in the country. The investigation remains ongoing.

Recent similar incident

This event follows the recent arrest of rapper Nicki Minaj in the Netherlands for exporting soft drugs. Minaj, 41, was later fined and released while en route to a concert in England.

Khalifa later posted a video on Instagram of himself smoking in Paris with the Eiffel Tower in the background, indicating that the incident in Romania did not deter his public cannabis use.
