Kanye West is now just Ye. On Monday, a Los Angeles judge granted the rapper, producer, and fashion designer’s request to officially change his name from Kanye Omari West to Ye, with no middle or last name.
“There being no objections, the petition for change of name is granted,” Judge Michelle Williams Court said in court documents.
“Personal reasons” were listed in the petition submitted on August 24.
For years, he’ is famous by the handle Ye on social media. He tweeted in 2018, expressing his desire for the shift. Thereby, saying “the being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE.”
His 2018 album was likewise titled with the moniker.
He’s claimed in interviews that he likes it since it’s a shortening of his first name and because it’s a term that appears throughout the Bible.
“I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible it means you. So it’s I’m you, I’m us, it’s us,” he said that year in a radio interview.
“It went from being Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, our everything.”
The 44-year-old is divorcing Kim Kardashian West. She did not request that her surname be changed back to Kardashian when she filed for divorce from him in February.
His former last name is also going down to the couple’s four children.
