Rapper A$AP Rocky arrested at LA airport in 2021 shooting

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Rakim Mayers, better known as A$AP Rocky, was arrested on Wednesday at Los Angeles International Airport in connection with a shooting in November. He was coming back on a private plane from Barbados after spending time with his girlfriend, singer Rihanna.

Authorities said Mayers, 33, was wanted in connection with a gunshot that occurred on Nov. 6, 2021, after an altercation escalated. Mayers is guilty of discharging a handgun at a friend. The victim suffered a minor injury and sought medical attention afterward. Alan Jackson, Mayers’ lawyer, confirmed his client’s detention.

According to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department booking report, Mayers was in jail at 12:42 pm. His bail was set at $550,000. He was free in less than three hours after posting his bond. Moreover, in a statement on Twitter, police gave details of the November incident and said: “Early this morning, LAPD officers arrested Mayers for assault with a deadly weapon (firearm) at the Los Angeles International Airport. The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.”

Rakim Mayers’ last studio album was four years ago. He, like Rihanna, has become as well-known for dictating fashion trends as he is for music. However, after being arrested for nearly a month in Sweden following a street brawl; he became the subject of international attention in 2019. He was convicted of assault and handed a “conditional sentence.” The sentence allows him to not serve any further time in prison.
