Pixar movies & shows releasing after Turning Red

The most recent film of Pixar studios, Turning Red, will premiere on Disney+ on March 11. But the studio already has other films and TV shows in the works after Mei Lee’s adventures. The field of animation now includes several studios constantly presenting fresh stories to audiences. However, Pixar remains a juggernaut, releasing at least one film per year. Pixar has two films scheduled for release in 2022. The first of which is Turning Red, a unique yet interesting look at puberty.

Turning Red, directed by Domee Shi, transports viewers to Canada to meet Meilin “Mei” Lee (Rosalie Chiang). She is a quirky 13-year-old Chinese-Canadian student who discovers that she can transform into a giant red panda whenever she becomes overly excited or stressed. But she can revert if she becomes calm.

Turning Red was supposed to be released in theaters. But when the coronavirus pandemic progressed and the Omicron version emerged, Disney chose to treat it the same way they treated Soul and Luca and sent it straight to Disney+ (though it will be shown theatrically in countries without Disney+). The first Pixar film will be released in 2022. After it, more Pixar movies and TV shows are coming soon. Here are all six Pixar movies and TV shows coming after Turning Red.

Lightyear – June 17, 2022

The stories of Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the rest of Andy’s (and Bonnie’s) toys came to a close with Toy Story 4. But Pixar has one more story to tell from this world. Lightyear is a Toy Story spin-off and origin story that, contrary to popular belief, explores the origins of the space ranger who inspired the toy that became Woody’s best friend, rather than the Buzz Lightyear toy. Lightyear follows Buzz Lightyear (voiced by Chris Evans), a young test pilot. He is on his path to becoming the legendary Space Ranger we all know and love. Buzz will encounter a variety of alien animals throughout space, as well as the evil Emperor Zurg. Completing the Lightyear voice cast are Keke Palmer, Dale Soules, Taika Waititi, Uzo Aduba, James Brolin, and Peter Sohn. Lightyear is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 17, 2022.

Cars On The Road (TV Series) – 2022

Pixar is also venturing into television and streaming with shows based on some of its largest (but not necessarily most popular) films. Cars on the Road, based on the Cars movies, follows in the footsteps of Monsters at Work. Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) and his closest friend Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) will go on a cross-country road journey throughout the United States in Cars on the Road. Each episode will feature McQueen and Mater in a different setting, such as being hunted by dinosaur-like cars. It will introduce new characters as well as bring back some old ones. Cars on the Road does not yet have a premiere date. But it is likely to arrive on Disney+ in the fall of 2022.

Win Or Lose (TV Series) – 2023

Pixar is also attempting something new in the realm of streaming with the premiere of Win or Lose, the studio’s first original long-form TV show. Michael Yates and Carrie Hobson directed Win or Lose. It follows a middle school baseball team over the week leading up to their big championship game. Each episode shows the perspective of a different character. Win or Lose will be available only on Disney+. While a release date hasn’t been set, it’s likely to be in the fall of 2023.

Untitled Pixar Movie – June 16, 2023

Lightyear is the sole definite title on Pixar’s list of planned films at the time of writing. However, the studio has already set three dates for future films. Pixar is famous for including an Easter egg for the next film in each of their films (which led to the famous Pixar universe theory). Thus, it shouldn’t be long before the studio announces the film that will follow Lightyear. So, fans can look for the Easter egg, and speculation about the new story can begin. It’s worth mentioning that Pixar will take it easy in 2023. Thereby, releasing only one film (along with the previously stated Cars TV program), before returning to its two-film-per-year pace in 2024.

Untitled Pixar Movie – March 1, 2024

Although there will only be one Pixar film in 2023, viewers will not have to wait long for a new animated adventure. The studio’s first film for 2024 will be released in March. Again, no clues on what this film could be about – whether it’s a prequel/origin narrative like Lightyear, an original story, or based on a tale or legend. But an announcement could be made alongside the 2023 film. The key question with these prospective films is whether Disney will continue to ship them straight to Disney+ or if they’ll be able to have a theatrical release like Lightyear (assuming nothing changes in the next months).

Untitled Pixar Movie – June 14, 2024

The final film on Pixar’s list of planned films is set to hit theaters in the summer of 2024. Pixar’s greatest movies are usually released in the summer, so this might be one of the company’s most important projects shortly, but no specifics have been disclosed yet. Hopefully, this and the rest of Pixar’s films will be able to obtain a theatrical release so that audiences can reclaim their feeling of normalcy, but they are also becoming used to watching new Pixar stories from the comfort and safety of their own homes at this point.
