The final season of the beloved post-World War I era series, Peaky Blinders will be out on February 27. However, fans shouldn’t be sad because creator Steven Knight has teased where the series could go next. Throughout its six seasons, the crime drama has only risen in popularity and praise.
Season recap
The drama, which has spanned decades, is about a street gang known as Peaky Blinders. The group is led by Thomas “Tommy” Shelby. Tommy, a soldier for Queen and country became a street soldier. He was left in a terrible place at the end of Season 5. Murphy has already stated that the dark times are only just beginning and that things will get a lot worse in Season 6.
End of the beginning
In a recent interview with EW, creator Steven Knight clarified: “I’m calling this the end of the beginning.”
He went on to say that despite the show’s sixth season coming to an end, he had no plans to stop there because he hoped to finish it off with a movie. Knight also hinted that a series of spinoffs could be in the works following the film’s release.
“According to how the film structure falls into place, we’ll set in motion some spin-offs that will be part of the same universe,” he said.
Knight also revealed in the interview that the picture will be shot in at least 18 months. The film’s release date would tentatively be set for winter 2023 or the beginning of 2024. With all of the talk about the upcoming film, many people are speculating that Tommy won’t make it out of the series alive.
While these spin-offs may or may not follow the current storyline, they will be set in the Peaky Blinders universe. While there are many fan favorites, it’s too early to say who will play the lead. However, it appears more than probable that the spinoffs will focus on characters who haven’t been seen before.
