The Academy Awards are back in full motion for 2022, following last year’s ceremony, which was hosted at a more distant place and a later date than normal due to COVID-19. The Oscars nominations 2022 event has been one of the most closely watched in recent memory, thanks to a strong crop of films.
The 94th Academy Awards nominees were announced on Tuesday morning, with The Power of the Dog leading the pack.
From big-budget studio epics like Dune and West Side Story to beloved arthouse films like Licorice Pizza and The Lost Daughter—as well as a few critically acclaimed outliers like Drive My Car and Pedro Almodóvar’s Parallel Mothers—here are the films to watch as awards season heats up.
Nominees were announced for all 23 categories, including best film, best director, and acting categories, as well as crafts categories such as best sound, best production design, best makeup and hairstyling, and best visual effects.
The announcement was hosted by Leslie Jordan and Tracee Ellis Ross.
The Academy Awards event, which will take place on Sunday, March 27th, has yet to be assigned a host. The show will air live on ABC at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
