This year’s Oscars ceremony will have a presenter after a three-year absence. ABC Entertainment president, Craig Erwich without spilling many details revealed that the established arrangement with a host would return for the Academy Awards night in March. “You heard it first here,” he said jokingly, before adding that it could be him.
The Oscars last had a host, Jimmy Kimmel, in 2018. But they have not had a presenter since Kevin Hart stepped down from hosting after homophobic jokes he had published on social media resurfaced. The ceremony will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on March 27 this year, after being held at Union Station last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Will Packer, the producer of ‘Ride Along,’ has been named the ceremony’s executive producer.
It would be very fun, I would enjoy it
Erwich said: “Will has his pulse on popular culture and entertainment. I know he has a lot in store and we’ll have more details to share soon.” Spider-Man star Tom Holland recently threw his hat in the ring to host the ceremony, saying that if given the opportunity, he would “really enjoy” it. He told The Hollywood Reporter: “If they ask me to, I would, and it would be very fun. I would enjoy it.”
The 2019 telecast saw a rise in viewers. Soaring from 26.6 million to 29.5 million. But following years have recorded a constant plunge. With the 2021 ceremony declining to an all-time low of 10.4 million. Last weekend, The Power of the Dog and West Side Story took home the Golden Globes, which were held in a low-key star-less environment. And there was no broadcasting for it. Due to a boycott of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association by public relations firms, celebrities, and studios. The Oscar nominations will be out on February 8, with the ceremony taking place on March 27.
