The Oscars 2022 have made another potentially divisive decision by opting not to broadcast eight awards during the live broadcast. On March 27, 2022, ABC will broadcast the 94th Academy Awards. Unlike last few years, the Oscars will have hosts this year. Amy Schumer, Regina Hall, and Wanda Sykes will be hosting the ceremony.

Every year, the Academy is keen on experimenting with new things to freshen up the ceremony. However, the results are always disastrous. This year, they appear to have made yet another decision that will make many people angry. The Academy this year has decided to not show 8 awards from live broadcasting. The eight categories include the documentary short, film editing, makeup/hairstyling, original score, production design, animated short, live-action short, and also sound.

Even though the awards in categories will take place, they will just not be broadcasted live. The recordings of the same will be edited into the live telecast. The Oscars 2022 plan to broadcast the awards but will be focusing on keeping under the duration of 3 hours. The proclamation, however, is just one of the numerous steps by the Academy in an attempt to recapture its former ratings high.

Many online were making fun of the suggestion to introduce a Fan-Favorite Award. Unfortunately, it hasn’t worked out the way The Academy had yearned, either. To everyone’s surprise, Camilla Cabello’s Cinderella became the favorite film for the prize at Oscars 2022 but not Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The major categories pique the interest of Academy Award viewers. But the rest are critical in introducing a larger audience to films or aspects of filmmaking that they may not have considered. This action sends the impression to the general public that the other categories are less important.
