The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is considering several hosts for the Oscars 2022 ceremony after years of hostless Oscar shows. According to Variety, the producers of this year’s ceremony have addressed several A-list celebrities to co-host the show. There hasn’t been a judgment on hosts yet, and discussions are still in the early stages. The Academy, ABC, and producer Will Packer will make the final call.

For the previous three years, the Oscars have been without a host. In 2018, Jimmy Kimmel was the last host. The last time a group of celebrities hosted a show was in 1983. Walter Matthau, Dudley Moore, Richard Pryor, and Liza Minnelli all appeared in the 1983 Oscars. The Academy posted a poll on Twitter earlier this month for fans who they would wish to be Oscars 2022’s hosts

The tweet read, “If we asked you who would you want to host the Oscars, and this is strictly hypothetical, who would it hypothetically be?”

Oscars 2022 to-be-hosts list

Angela Lansbury, a three-time Oscar contender, Leslie Jones, singer and personality Dionne Warwick, and four-time Emmy nominee Laverne Cox were among the thousands of responses. Dwayne Johnson and Pete Davidson of “Saturday Night Live” have formerly been spoken of as possible prospects. Johnson’s schedule, however, would stave off him from acknowledging the hosting role, according to Variety.

Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Maya Rudolph have all been reached in the past. They also are in the running for the 2022 event. Steve Martin, Selena Gomez, and Martin Short, the stars of ‘Only Murders in the Building,’ are likewise at the prime of the list for hosting.

Craig Erwich, president of Hulu and ABC Entertainment, recently told Variety that the trio is at the top of their wish list. Thereby, saying, “They have mass appeal. Everybody loves them. They`d be a dream. That said, there`s a lot of incredible talent we`re considering. We`re having ongoing conversations with Will and the Academy about it.”

The Oscar nominations for 2022 will be announced on February 8. The award event will be airing on ABC on March 27.
