Serious injuries and memory loss after collision with bird
Mercedes Valentine, a 25-year-old neuroscientist and OnlyFans model, sustained severe injuries and memory loss after a motorcycle accident caused by a pigeon.
A lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, Valentine was out for a ride when she collided with the bird, resulting in devastating injuries. The crash left her with a broken nose, skull, shoulder, and four ribs, along with a shattered eye socket and pelvis.
Life-changing aftermath of the accident
Before the accident, Valentine was at the peak of her career. She had recently purchased a house worth over $900,000 and a Porsche Taycan Turbo valued at $100,000. However, the incident changed everything, leaving her with a severe memory loss that erased events from a month before and after the crash.
How a pigeon led to the crash
The day before the accident, Valentine had been celebrating her parents’ 60th birthdays and retirement. Instead of taking a car home with her family, she chose to ride her motorcycle.
“I wasn’t being clever and was going very fast down a residential street where there was a pigeon on a lamppost above me. As I approached, it swooped down, and not knowing what it was, I tried to avoid it. But then it hit me head-on, and I swerved,” she explained.
Her bike crashed into a parked car, launching her 260 feet into the air. By the time she reached the hospital, she had lost over three liters of blood.
“For the next two days, they worked on my face, stomach, and pelvis, trying to stitch everything up. I’m basically half metal now because of all the pins and plates in me,” she said.
Lost memories of family and friends
After regaining consciousness, Valentine could only remember her boyfriend’s name. Her memories of family, friends, and past events were completely wiped.
“It was shocking and traumatizing. I’d be at the gym, and someone would say hello, but I’d have no clue who they were. I had to accept that my memory was never coming back. Time feels completely warped now. I forget what day or month it is regularly. My boyfriend has to remind me every day of my schedule, or else I’d forget,” she said.
She attempted to return to content creation but faced comments about her appearance, particularly her bruised eyes and scars.
“It was an unlucky coincidence. If the pigeon had flown down a millisecond earlier or later, none of this would’ve happened,” she reflected.
