Shonda Rhimes’ upcoming murder mystery series, ‘The Residence’ will be available on Netflix. Moreover, the Emmy-nominated producer and her longtime partner Betsy Beers have signed a new partnership with the popular streaming service. Netflix already has her other series namely, Bridgeton and Inventing Anna.
Now, Shondaland, Rhimes’ production firm, is preparing to launch yet another series for the streaming behemoth. The shooting for the same will be in-house at Netflix by Paul William Davies, the creator of For the People. The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House, a New York Times bestseller book by Kate Anderson Bower, will serve as inspiration for the Shonda Rhimes-produced eight-episode whodunit.
The Residence is a nonfiction exposé
Rhimes’ new series will revolve around murder; however this notion is not new, it has previously been on the big screen with Wesley Snipes’ Murder at 1600. The nonfiction exposé includes first-hand anecdotes from the White House’s extensive workforce of diligent maids and butlers, as well as its highly important guests.
“132 rooms. 157 suspects. One dead body,” the show’s logline reads, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “One wildly eccentric detective. One disastrous State Dinner. ‘The Residence’ is a screwball whodunnit set in the upstairs, downstairs, and backstairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion.”
Though there are not many details about the series barring the storyline; fans can anticipate the series to be an intriguing one like the others by Shonda Rhimes. However, apart from this, Shonda’s long-running medical drama series Grey’s Anatomy is all set to renew for season 19.
