Netflix has decided to not go ahead and work on Meghan Markle’s animated series ‘Pearl’. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, in the fall of 2020, set up their production company, Archewell Productions. They aimed to produce scripted series, docu-series, documentaries, etc. The animated series Pearl was to be Archewell Productions’ debut.
Last summer, Meghan Markle and David Furnish co-executive made announcements about Pearl. Pearl was a family series about a 12-year-old girl who draws inspiration from a range of important women throughout history. Dropping several projects, including Markle’s, was part of strategic decisions on the production of animated series, the company said in a statement, without providing further details on its decision.
The decision comes after Netflix announced a 200,000-subscriber loss
Not just Meghan’s series but Netflix has also decided to drop a couple of more animated series. Space Force is one of the most popular shows to be called off as a result of the poor ratings. The show was streaming for two seasons before its cancellation just a few weeks ago. The cancellation of Raising Dion was similar after two seasons. Comedy Pretty Smart, as well as Paris Hilton’s Cooking with Paris, were both off after only one season.
However, the streaming giant has affirmed that it would continue to collaborate with Archewell Productions on a variety of projects. The projects include the documentary series Heart of Invictus. The competitors competing in the Invictus Games in The Hague in 2022, will be the center of the series. The decision to remove these shows comes after Netflix announced a 200,000-subscriber loss in the first quarter.
