Netflix confirms 'Stranger Things' spinoff and stage play

Netflix has confirmed its most famous English sci-fi drama series, ‘Stranger Things will have a spin-off as well as a stage play. The show’s creators, Matt and Ross Duffer have big ambitions for the franchise after Season 5 of the show concludes. It will be one of several new projects that the Duffer Brothers, who created Stranger Things, will be in charge of. The pair’s “original idea” will serve as the foundation for the cinematic spin-off.

Matt Duffer said, “I’ve read these rumors that there’s gonna be an Eleven spin-off, that there’s gonna be a Steve and Dustin spin-off, or that it’s another number. That’s not interesting to me because I feel like we’ve done all that. We’ve spent I don’t know how many hours exploring all of that. So it’s very different.”

A “new stage play set within the world and mythology” of ‘Stranger Things is also on the way, with Stephen Daldry (The Crown) set to direct. It is uncertain if the stage play will deviate from the current series or continue with the same track. There is also no clear information regarding if the play will start in the UK or not given that a British couple is leading it.

Days after Stranger Things’ fourth season‘s end, Netflix made its announcement. Over one billion hours have already been spent watching it on the streaming service, making it the first series of an English-language show to do so. “Matt and Ross are an exceptionally unique talent with a vision so crisp and clear. They are all about the details. It’s no accident that Stranger Things has pierced the zeitgeist to become the epic pop culture phenomenon it is today,” said Netflix content boss Ted Sarandos.
