The popular Korean drama that intrigued people with its plotline and characters last year, Squid Game is all set to come up with season 2. Netflix, on Sunday, announced the return of the K-drama series. The streaming giant also dropped some hints regarding what could be expected of this season.
In a letter shared by Netflix, writer and director Hwang Dong-hyuk offered a few clues regarding the show’s season 2. “And now, Gi-hun returns,” director Hwang Dong-hyuk said. He said, “the man in the suit with ddakji might be back.” “You’ll also be introduced to Young-hee’s boyfriend,” he added. The director said, “It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year…But it took only 12 days for the show to become the most popular series ever. There’s been so much demand, love, and attention for a season two,” he said. “So I feel I have no choice but to make a season two.”
Get ready for round 2
Season 1 of Squid Game was released on Netflix on September 17, 2021. It quickly became the most-watched series on the platform, with 1.65 billion hours of watching in the first 28 days alone in the United States. Earlier last year, after the success of the series, the makers had confirmed that there will be a season 2.
The series follows cash-strapped competitors as they play childhood games in the hopes of winning life-changing amounts of money. Meanwhile, Netflix’s stock has risen, with the online streaming service resuming its global success after a surprise decline in members. After disclosing in April that it had shed 200,000 subscribers in the first quarter, Netflix is hoping that a second season will help it recover from a 70 percent drop in stock this year.
