In a virtual ceremony that was pre-recorded, the MTV Movie and TV Awards winners were announced on Sunday, May 7, 2023. The eagerly anticipated ceremony was scheduled to take place in person in Santa Monica, California. The producers decided to hold a filmed event instead because of the Writers Guild of America strike.
Drew Barrymore, an actress, withdrew from her hosting duties due to the ongoing writers’ strike in order to support the writers. The Last of Us, an HBO thriller that has received high praise, was the night’s big winner. Three golden popcorn statuettes were awarded to the post-apocalyptic drama. For Top Gun: Maverick, Tom Cruise also received the Best Performance in a Motion Picture honor. He took the prize from the cockpit of a fighter jet. The night’s biggest winner was Jenna Ortega, who appeared on Wednesday. For her outstanding performance in the well-liked Netflix series, Ortega, 20, took home the prize for Best Performance in a Show.
