In order to release “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” in Kuwait, a sequence from the most recent version was supposedly deleted.
According to a story in The Hollywood Reporter, Michaela Coel and Florence Kasumba’s characters share a touching moment in the scene. Coel kissing Kasumba’s forehead at the LGBTQ+ moment, which is about 10 seconds long, was apparently removed at the censors’ request. The two hours and forty-one-minute-long movie also lacked a scene with childbirth and the statement, “A god to his people.”
Interestingly, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, and Qatar, which typically censor LGBTQ+ scenes, will reportedly show the movie unaltered while Kuwait has applied the cuts.
Not only is Kuwait tight on same-sex relationships but it also had issues with T’Challa and Nakia’s kissing in the 2018 film “Black Panther.” For the Kuwaiti audience, that scene—a kiss between a heterosexual couple—was also cut from the movie.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the 2018 sequel, had a successful international debut. In only the US on Thursday previews, the sequel brought in $28 million.
