Kim Kardashian is now legally single from ex-husband, rapper Kanye West. Before their divorce, the couple was together for over eight years. The reality TV star’s appeal to be legally single received a nod from a Los Angeles judge on Wednesday. Kardashian filed for divorce from West a year ago, citing irreconcilable differences. West has now legally changed his name to Ye. The couple has four children, from ages two to eight.
West, 44, had opposed the divorce and openly pleaded to his wife to return to their marriage in recent months. He chastised her parenting and her current relationship with ‘Saturday Night Live’ actor Pete Davidson in recent Instagram posts.
The businesswoman and model will go by her maiden name of Kardashian. “The Court grants termination of the marital status,” the judge said in a written order issued after a public hearing. This practice, known in court as bifurcation, is common in complicated divorces.
Retirement planning and asset management
The couple’s relationship was in trouble since 2020. It started when West, who allegedly suffers from bipolar disorder, waged an unsuccessful campaign for president of the United States under his self-styled Birthday Party, which was distinguished by erratic outbursts. With the 21-time Grammy winner spending most of his time at his ranch in Wyoming and Kardashian living in their Calabasas, California, mansion outside of Los Angeles, the couple drifted further apart. Kardashian sent a statement pleading for empathy for West’s mental health issues.
Even though their legal marriage has ended, there are still issues to take care of; regarding retirement planning and asset management. Kim Kardashian stated that her plea to terminate the marriage owing to “irreconcilable” issues and return to single status was still valid. The next hearing in the matter, a status conference, will likewise take place on August 5th.
