Kim Kardashian, Sylvester Stallone, and Kevin Hart are among the celebrities on a list of Los Angeles residents who have been charged with overusing water during the recent drought. The list, which includes the names of 2000 residents who have been consuming excessive amounts of water, was obtained by the Los Angeles Times from the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District.
According to reports, severe drought is apparently affecting over 97% of Los Angeles State. In the previous 128 years, this year has been ranked as the fourth-dryest year. According to Gavin Newsom, the Governor of California, as temperatures continue to climb and precipitation decreases, the state is experiencing its worst drought since the 1800s. As a result, Las Virgenes issued a series of “stage 3” limitations in the region in June. Residents have been encouraged to cut back on their use of outdoor water by one day.
After disobeying the state’s severe water restrictions during the drought, several of California’s A-list celebrities who reside in the San Fernando Valley have been ordered to install water restriction devices on their luxurious million-dollar mansions.
A lot of celebrities like Kim Kardashian have been sent “notices of exceedance”
The reports state that a lot of celebrities have already been issued “notices of exceedance” which state that they have surpassed 150 percent of their monthly budget at least four times since the district issued new rules. There have been rules set to help combat the drought at the end of last year.
Stars like Kim and Kourtney Kardashian, Kevin Hart, Sylvester Stallone, and former NBA player Dwyane Wade got the warnings, which were sent out in May and June. Kourtney, Kim’s sister, also received criticism for exceeding her household budget by 245% last month.
Kevin Hart used 519 percent more than expected in June. Wade and his wife went a staggering 1400% above their water budget in June. Not only that, but in May, the couple used 489,000 more gallons than allowed under the budget. Later, the couple released a statement in which they promised to continue making great efforts to find a solution and and said “we are doing everything we can to rectify the situation and will continue to go to extensive lengths to resolve the issue.”
“My client has been addressing the situation proactively”
Stallone’s property apparently utilized approximately 230,000 more gallons of water than was allowed.
Marty Singer, who is Sylvester’s attorney, said that the numbers put out “mischaracterize and misinterpret the situation regarding the water usage at my client’s property.” The lawyer also said that the actor has about 500 trees on his property that need the water that was used up. “My client has been addressing the situation responsibly and proactively.”
As the city attempts to control the drought, Mike McNutt, a spokesman for Las Virgenes, told the media that they are requesting that these celebrities use less water. Celebrities, according to McNutt, inspire people, hence it is crucial for them to drive change.
