Actors Jude Law, Marion Cotillard, Andrea Riseborough, and Josh O’Connor will feature alongside Oscar winner Kate Winslet in the upcoming biographical drama movie Lee. This biographical film is inspired by the life of Lee Miller. She is a Vogue cover model turned WWII journalist.
Kate Winslet will play the character of Miller. Miller had given up a glittering career as a Vogue cover model and muse to artists such as Man Ray for a perilous job as a WWII photographer. Miller documented the battle on the allied front lines and exposed Hitler’s Nazi Germany’s atrocities against Jews in incarceration camps. Ellen Kuras is the director of the film. The film focuses on Lee Miller, who went from being a model to covering World War II as a photographer.
This is not a biopic
This is not a biopic,” Winslet mentions in a brief statement on the film. “To make a story about Lee’s whole life, that’s a series worthy of HBO. What we want to do was find the most interesting decade in her life. The one that defined who she was and what she became because of what she went through. It was the period from 1938-1948 that took her right through the war. Her most defining time. This is the story we want people to know about Lee more than the many other parts of her life.”
Law will play Roland Penrose. He is an artist, poet, and Miller’s love interest. O’Connor will play Miller’s son, Anthony Penrose, as per Deadline. Audrey Withers, the editor of British Vogue and a personal friend of Miller, will be played by Riseborough, while Solange D’Ayen, the fashion director of French Vogue, will be played by Cotillard.
Liz Hannah wrote the script, which is based on Anthony Penrose’s book “The Lives of Lee Miller.” Winslet is also producing the picture with Hopscotch Features’ Troy Lum and Andrew Mason, as well as Rocket Science and Finola Dwyer. The film’s production will start early next year.
