'Joker 2': Lady Gaga confirms role opposite Joaquin Phoenix as Harley Quinn

On Thursday, DC unveiled the teaser for the upcoming Joker 2 and Lady Gaga confirmed her casting in the film. After impressing the industry with her outstanding performance in the House of Gucci, Variety had stated that Gaga was a candidate for the part of Harley Quinn in the movie. The movie is a continuation of the 2019 anti-hero character study Joker, which Todd Phillips directed. Lady Gaga shared on her Instagram feed the teaser announcing her participation in the Warner Bros. project.

With the names Phoenix and Lady Gaga flashing on the screen, the short footage shows silhouettes dancing together to the rhythm of the song “Cheek to Cheek.” Irving Berlin originally composed it in 1935 for the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers film Top Hat. Phoenix first appeared in the role in the 2019 movie “Joker,” for which he won the Academy Award for best actor. The movie told the backstory of Batman’s arch nemesis from the DC Comics, and it won Phoenix the award.

On October 4, 2024, the big screen will welcome Joaquin Phoenix back as Batman’s infamous antagonist in the Joker sequel. The sequel’s plot is being kept a secret. The film’s screenplay was co-written by Scott Silver and Phillips. Prior to that, Margot Robbie had portrayed Harley Quinn in the films Suicide Squadinm 2016 as well as Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad in 2020 and 2021, respectively. In 2019, Todd Phillips’ original Joker, made just over $1 billion worldwide. It broke the record for the highest-grossing R-rated film ever.
