Johnny Depp has settled a lawsuit in connection with an alleged assault on a crew member, while filming his 2018 crime drama, City of Lies, On July 25, Depp was supposed to appear in a civil trial in Los Angeles. Gregg “Rocky” Brooks reportedly claimed in 2017 that the actor attacked him on the set. In the complaint filed in July 2018, Brooks additionally sued the movie’s producer and director for undisclosed damages.
Brooks said in the complaint that Depp followed him and allegedly punched him twice in the ribs after screaming, “Who the f— are you? You have no right to tell me what to do.” He further said that Depp said he’d give him “$100,000 to punch me in the face right now” after Brooks didn’t react to the punches. Additionally, he said Depp smelled of alcohol and used drugs while filming.
The suit is expected to be dismissed
Brooks’ attorney in 2019 said, “We obviously recognize that in the hierarchy of Hollywood. Johnny Depp is on top and the location managers are somewhere mid-level or toward the bottom. In any confrontation between the two of them, no matter who started it, no matter who’s responsible, Johnny Depp is going to come out on top. And our guy is going to come out damaged.”
The suit is expected to be dismissed once the settlement is completed. No terms were disclosed. Depp was represented by Camille Vasquez, who was a part of his legal team in his defamation duel with Amber Heard.
Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker starred in the crime drama “City of Lies,” which was adapted from the Randall Sullivan novel “LAbyrinth.” The plot revolves around the murder cases of musicians Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. Detective Russell Poole of the Los Angeles Police Department portrayed by Depp.
