Johnny Depp opens up about drug abuse and his relationship with Amber Heard in court 

On Tuesday, Johnny Depp testified against his ex-wife Amber Heard in his continuing defamation trial in Virginia. Depp’s testimony included some major revelations. It includes his acknowledgment to use substances to “numb” himself. The actor denied Heard’s abuse claims, claiming that he never hit her. The 58-year-old actor discussed his early romance with Amber Heard. The relationship which eventually took a 360° turn.

The actor also addressed the distressing messages that had become public in which he referenced her “rotting corpse”. The actor apologized for his obscene language. He said he was “ashamed of some of the references made.” Giving an explanation for his behavior, he said it was the result of the intensity of anguish he was experiencing while in a dark place.

Acknowledging the allegations of drug abuse, he explained that he did not use drugs to “party,” but rather to “get away from things.” He said, “I’ve taken these substances on and off to numb myself of the ghosts, the wraiths that were still with me from my youth.” The actor went on to add that he isn’t a “maniac” who requires constant intoxication. “I’m not some maniac who needs to be high or loaded all the time. In fact, before Australia and in Australia, I had been off of alcohol for, I believe, 18 months.”

Johnny Depp said , “A lot of it is just plainly false. I think that it was an easy target for her to hit because; once you’ve trusted somebody for a certain amount of years and told them all the secrets of your life; that information can of course be used against you.” Depp’s testimony will resume on Wednesday. However, the trial is likely to last until the end of the following month.
