Now, one of the most popular non-English shows was once a complete flop. Money Heist, Netflix’s one of the most popular non-English shows, was once on the verge of being called off. Yes, you read it right, the original season of the series did not really go well with the Spanish audience.
Money Heist was a failure in Spain
Javier Gómez Santander, the screenwriter for the show once told El Mundo, a Spanish newspaper that the series ‘was a failure, in Spain’.
“Contrary to what it seems, the life of the series is the story of a failure. Antena 3 cut the number of planned chapters. The series maintained decent figures, but nothing special… The feeling was not flattering and I was already thinking about the next projects” he said.
The showwas bought by Netflix for literally two dollars
According to Left Bank Pictures head Andy Harries, “Literally, three months [after it was scrapped], this show that had been canceled in Spain was bought by Netflix for literally two dollars… They bunged it out without any promotion and within two weeks, the thing was number one around the world.”
Who could have known then that Netflix’s 2 dollar investment in a supposedly flop series Money Heist would become one of the biggest fan favorites shows all across the globe?
Well, now thanks to Netflix we got an opportunity to watch Professor and his squad plan and execute the heist for not just one but 5 seasons. Netflix has released volume 1 of season 5 on September 3rd. The midseason finale has left people in suspense about the fate of Professor and others. Volume 2 of season 5 will release on December 3 later this year.
