The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office said veteran actor Alec Baldwin killed a woman, his director of photography, and injured the director. It was by using a prop gun on the set outside of Santa Fe on Thursday. He is starring in and producing a Western film.
Halyna Hutchins, the director of photography for the film “Rust,” and director Joel Souza were shot, according to sheriff’s officials.
Hutchins, 42, was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital. Medical workers announced her dead, according to authorities.
Then, they transferred Souza, 48, to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center by ambulance, where his treatment is on.
The film’s production has come to a halt.
According to a Baldwin spokeswoman, Baldwin killed a woman in an accident that occurred on set when a prop gun with blanks was misfired.
The 68-year-old Baldwin was crying outside the sheriff’s office on Thursday, according to the Santa Fe New Mexican. But attempts to reach him for comment were fruitless.
Hutchins, a cinematographer, was fatally shot, according to the International Cinematographers Guild.
“The details are unclear at this moment. But we are working to learn more, and we support a full investigation into this tragic event”. The guild president John Lindley and executive director Rebecca Rhine said in a statement.
“Rising star”
Hutchins, 42, was the director of photography on Joe Manganiello’s upcoming action picture “Archenemy”. In 2019, American Cinematographer also dubbed her a “rising star” after she graduated from the American Film Institute in 2015. The film’s production has come to a halt.
“I’m so sad about losing Halyna. And so infuriated that this could happen on a set,” said “Archenemy” director Adam Egypt Mortimer on Twitter. “She was a brilliant talent who was absolutely committed to art and to film.”
Souza’s 2019 film “Crown Vic,” had starring Thomas Jane as a veteran Los Angeles police officer. He was on the trail for two vicious bank robbers. It featured Baldwin as a producer. “Hanna’s Gold,” a treasure hunt adventure starring Luke Perry, was his first credited picture.
Deputies went to the Bonanza Creek Ranch movie set at 2 p.m. 911 calls reported a person shot on set, according to sheriff’s spokesman Juan Rios.
Detectives were also looking into how and what type of projectile was fired, he said.
“This investigation remains open and active,” Rios said in a statement. “No charges have been filed in regard to this incident. Witnesses continue to be interviewed by detectives.”

According to a press statement from the New Mexico Film Office, filming for “Rust” will likewise continue into early November.
According to the Internet Movie Database website, the film is about a 13-year-old boy. He is the only one to care for himself and his younger brother. Their parents die in 1880s Kansas. He has a death sentence for the unintentional killing of a local rancher. The kid then goes on the run with his long-estranged grandfather (played by Baldwin).
