To the dismay of DC fans worldwide, British actor Henry Cavill revealed on social media on December 15 that he would not be playing Superman any more.
Following a conversation with producer Peter Safran and director James Gunn, the 39-year-old actor revealed the information.
According to reports, Cavill’s Superman, a well-known superhero in the DC universe, will appear as a rising reporter in the upcoming Superman movie.
“The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build,” the statement reads.
“I will, after all, not be returning as Superman. After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life,” Cavil mentioned.
On October 24, the actor announced his comeback as the DC superhero via an Instagram post. The video was published following the release of Black Adam, which included Cavill’s Superman comeback in a post-credit scene. In the scenario, Cavill’s Superman and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Black Adam faced up.
The actor stated in the video, “I wanted to make it official that I am back as Superman and the image you see on this post and what you saw in Black Adam is just a tiny taste of things to come.” The actor had said in the video.
Cavill revealed his decision to abandon his role as Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix fantasy drama series The Witcher six days after making the announcement.
“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with monsters and adventures. And alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4. In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf.” The Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth would take on the part Cavill had already mastered, the actor stated in the article.
