“Heads Up!” came into existence on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, while being played with actual cards. The game quickly rose to popularity and was turned into a mobile app in May 2013. It grew to more than 70 million downloads and over 40 million players. Netflix is now launching its own version of this game, nine years later.
Fewer than 1% of Netflix’s subscriber base plays its games
The game’s release coincides with Apptopia’s recent admission that fewer than 1% of the streaming platform’s subscription base plays its games. In November 2021, the streaming service launched its gaming platform. Every month afterward, it kept expanding its selection of games.
The Heads Up! game by Netflix was created in collaboration with Ellen Digital Venture and offers users the opportunity to test their knowledge of Netflix with 28 cards based on well-known Netflix shows, such as Bridgerton, Stranger Things, and Squid Game, as well as Netflix social channels like Geeked and Strong Black Lead. By the end of the year, the streaming company is aiming to have more than 50 titles on its platform.
Heads Up! will be accessible to users on their Android and iOS devices using the app. Users of the game will also be able to post videos of their bouts on WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, and other social media sites. Additionally, it will be offered in 15 additional languages, including Thai, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Portuguese.
