The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the Golden Globes 2022 winners without much enthusiasm, making for a somber evening in Hollywood. The ceremony was also attended by no journalists or celebrities for the first time. It is a result of celebrities boycotted the organization due to its discriminatory tactics.

The Golden Globes 2022 winners were likewise announced without a red carpet event. There was no live coverage of the announcement because it was made on Twitter.
The HFPA has been embroiled in controversy since the 2021 show. It was revealed that the organization had no Black members and also engaged in questionable business practices. Then, for this year’s ceremony, the traditional broadcaster, NBC, pulled out of the coverage. Then, the HFPA has subsequently broadened its membership.
As opening remarks, HFPA President Helen Hoehne said, “We’re going to be outspoken about what we’re learning and challenge others to join us with members from more than 50 countries. We have a unique place in the awards universe.”
