Belfast, Northern Ireland – Fans of the hit fantasy series “Game of Thrones” have reason to rejoice as the newest spin-off, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” is set to begin filming at Titanic Studios in the coming weeks. Author George R.R. Martin is expected to visit the site in July.
Under the radar preparations
The news of the spin-off was kept confidential as the cast and crew were being assembled. “Game of Thrones Tours” owner Robert Dowling revealed, “We learned about it months ago, but it’s been quite secretive. Our guides, many of whom were extras in the original series, had an inkling about a new fantasy project post-‘How To Train Your Dragon.'”
Costume and prop designers from the original “Game of Thrones” series have been brought back to work on this new project, ensuring continuity in the franchise’s distinctive visual style.
Series details and fan reactions
George R.R. Martin confirmed in a blog post that three seasons have been written for “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” though they will be shorter than both “Game of Thrones” and “House of the Dragon.” The series is set 90 years before the events of “Game of Thrones” and will debut in 2025 with Peter Claffey cast as the lead character, Ser Duncan.
Fans in Northern Ireland are thrilled about the return. Super fan and former series extra Richard Hodgen expressed his excitement, “It’s fantastic to see the franchise returning to Northern Ireland. The local fans are ecstatic, and Northern Ireland is truly ‘The North, the REAL North.'”
Dowling anticipates a surge of enthusiasm in Belfast and across Northern Ireland. British director Owen Harris will helm three out of six episodes for the first season, “The Hedge Knight.” Martin mentioned that “The Sworn Sword” and “The Mystery Knight” will follow, contingent on the success of the initial episodes.
With filming set to commence soon, Belfast is once again poised to become the epicenter of “Game of Thrones” excitement, continuing its legacy as the spiritual home of the franchise.
