The 76th Emmy Awards to Witness a Historic Night with the Levy Duo at the Helm
As the 76th Emmy Awards approaches, anticipation is building among moviegoers and television enthusiasts eager to see their favorite shows clinch the coveted trophies. This year, the Emmys have a unique treat in store: the charismatic father-son duo, Eugene Levy and Dan Levy, will be taking on hosting duties. This marks the first time in the history of the Emmys that a father and son duo will serve as hosts.
A historic hosting announcement
In a statement filled with excitement, the Levys expressed their joy, saying, “For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough.” They added, “We’re thrilled to be able to raise a glass to this extraordinary season of television and can’t wait to spend the evening with you all on Sept. 15.”
Back in 2020, during the pandemic, Eugene and Dan Levy’s acclaimed sitcom, Schitt’s Creek, dominated the Emmy Awards. Eugene took home the award for Outstanding Comedy Actor, while Dan secured the title of Best Supporting Comedy Actor. Their triumph made them the first-ever father-son duo to win Emmys in the same year.
Eugene Levy’s nomination
In addition to hosting, Eugene Levy is also a nominee this year. He is in the running for the Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special category for his work on the Apple TV+ series, The Reluctant Traveler With Eugene Levy.
Craig Erwich, President of Disney Television Group, praised the Levys’ upcoming hosting role, stating, “Eugene’s and Dan’s comedic intuition and uncanny ability to capture the hearts of viewers will make for a memorable Emmys telecast honoring this year’s best and brightest,” as reported by Variety.
Leading nominations
This year’s Emmy nominations highlight The Bear and Shōgun as frontrunners. Shōgun leads the drama category with 25 nominations, while the comedy show set in a Chicago sandwich shop, The Bear, has garnered an impressive 23 nominations.
