Emily in Paris wrapped its season 2 finale on a cliffhanger. Emily finds herself hanging between not only two men, but two separate jobs as well.
Emily’s Parisian world was unraveled in the Netflix comedy-season drama two’s finale. Her boss, Madeline (Kate Walsh), returned from the United States. She got into a dispute with Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) over Savoir.
After the disagreement, Sylvie left Savoir to form her marketing firm. Also, she offered Emily (Lily Collins) a job at her new firm. Thereby, leaving Emily with a big decision to make as she considered whether to stay in Paris and take the new job or pursue her promotion back in Chicago.
Emily called Sylvie in the final seconds of Emily in Paris season 2 to announce her decision. But her choice is not out to the public.
Darren Star, the showrunner of Emily in Paris, has foreshadowed Emily’s struggle with her future. Thus, telling TVLine that she is “faced with a major decision”.
“She has reasons to pick a number of doors at the end of season 2, and our challenge is deciding which of those doors she’s going to choose and why. That’s what season 3 is going to be about,” he said.
“When you live in a foreign country, one of the questions is, where’s your heart? Is it the place you came from, or the place you are at the moment? Emily is going to be struggling with that as well.”
Of course, Emily is at a crossroads in more ways than one. Emily falls in love with British banker Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) in season two. But she can’t stop thinking about her next-door neighbor, Gabriel (Lucas Bravo).
Emily went to Gabriel’s to confess her feelings after Alfie decided to return to London and asked Emily to try a long-distance relationship with him. But Gabriel’s on-off girlfriend Camille (Camille Razat) appears and reveals that she and Gabriel were back together and she was moving in with him.
Emily’s personal life will remain “really intertwined” with her career decisions, according to Star, “because it’s her life, and she does have very strong feelings for Gabriel.”
“That’s a question she’s going to have to confront is, how can she manage her relationship issues with her work issues, both of which, by the end of Season 2, are hanging in the balance,” he continued.
While Emily’s heart may appear to belong to Gabriel, Star teased that Alfie is not out just yet.
“I love Alfie, personally. I wouldn’t write Alfie off, and I don’t think Emily should, either,” he said. “London’s not far from Paris.”
