Disney Hollywood studios relocating Muppets: This is where they will be moved

Walt Disney World is bidding farewell to MuppetVision 3D at Disney Hollywood Studios, paving the way for an exciting new Monsters, Inc.-themed land, Monstropolis. Announced on Friday, the transition will transform the Muppets Courtyard into a vibrant Monsters, Inc. world, featuring attractions, restaurants, and retail spaces that bring the beloved characters from Monstropolis to life.

The Muppets head to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

While MuppetVision 3D will close, the Muppets are not disappearing from the park. In a significant shake-up, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and other fan-favorite characters will become the new stars of the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, replacing Aerosmith.

The revamped attraction will feature a fresh storyline involving the Muppets hosting a music festival alongside popular music stars, promising a mix of laughter, thrills, and music.

A Disney blog post announcing the change expressed enthusiasm:
“We know so many of you share our love for The Muppets and know their energy will be a perfect fit for this coaster. Plus, as the first Disney ride ever to feature The Muppets, there’s sure to be laughter, screams, and new tunes for fans to enjoy throughout the adventure, along with plenty of Muppets-themed merchandise on Sunset Boulevard!”

New adventures in Monstropolis

The forthcoming Monsters, Inc. land will be located on the southern side of the park and will immerse guests in Monstropolis with a new theater spectacle, dining experiences, and themed shopping opportunities.

Disney has not yet revealed when these changes will take effect but assured fans they still have time to enjoy the existing attractions. In the blog post, Disney encouraged visitors to experience the Aerosmith version of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and MuppetVision 3D “before their final curtain calls.”

The company also hinted at preserving elements of the original MuppetVision 3D experience:
“As we move forward with these changes, we are having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.”

Excitement builds for a new era

The announcement marks a significant shift in Disney Hollywood Studios’ offerings, blending nostalgia for beloved franchises with innovative new experiences. Fans of both the Muppets and Monsters, Inc. can look forward to exciting adventures as these iconic characters take on fresh roles in the park.
