Disney and Scarlett Johansson, settle the lawsuit

Nearly two months ago, Scarlett Johnson had sued Disney accusing of breaching her contract. She lodged a complaint at the Los Angeles County Superior Court. The complaint contended that her “Black Widow” two-release strategy lowered her income. It was partly predicated on box office fees from an exclusive film competition. However, the Disney and Scarlett Johansson lawsuit is now settled.

“I’m very pleased that we have been able to come to a mutual agreement with Scarlett Johansson regarding ‘Black Widow,’ Alan Bergman, said in a statement. Likewise, he says the company is looking forward to working with her on a number of projects.

Johansson said she, too, was happy to have resolved her differences with the company and looked forward to furthering collaboration. “I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done together over the years. I have greatly enjoyed my creative relationship with the team,” her statement said.

Johansson has performed in nine Marvel flicks as a fictional Russian assassin-turned Avenger superhero. Black Widow came out in theatres on July 9. It is also available for a $30 charge on Disney+. The film has earned more than $378 million in worldwide theatre receipts. The feature also generated about $60 million through streaming purchases in its first 20 days in release, Disney has said.
