Courteney Cox and Matthew Perry shared a deep bond during their time on “Friends,” and Cox believes her late co-star is still with her in spirit. In a recent interview, Cox revealed that she frequently senses Perry’s presence.
Matthew Perry passed away in October 2023, at the age of 54. He was found unresponsive in a hot tub at his home in Pacific Palisades, California. Reflecting on his legacy during a candid conversation on CBS Sunday Morning, Cox commemorated the 20th anniversary of the sitcom’s series finale and paid tribute to Perry’s unparalleled sense of humor and kind heart.
Courteney Cox feels Perry’s presence
“I think he’s probably one of the funniest human beings in the world. He’s just so funny,” Cox, 59, remarked. “He had a genuinely huge heart. He struggled, but I’m so thankful I got to work so closely with him for so many years. He visits me a lot if we believe in that.”
Cox went on to share that she feels Perry’s guidance in her life, similar to how she feels connected to her late parents. “I talk to my mom, my dad, and Matthew. I feel like there are a lot of people that, I think, guide us,” she explained. “I do sense — I sense Matthew’s around for sure.”
The cause of Perry’s death
In December 2023, the LA County Medical Examiner’s Office concluded that Perry’s death was due to the “acute effects of ketamine,” ruling it an accidental death. The autopsy also noted drowning, coronary artery disease, and the presence of opioid buprenorphine as contributing factors.
Courteney Cox’s reflections on Matthew Perry highlight the lasting impact he had on his friends and colleagues. As she continues to feel his presence, the legacy of his humor and warmth endures in the hearts of those who knew him.
