Celine Dion makes 1st public appearance in 4 years after stiff-person syndrome diagnosis

Céline Dion and her children are getting into the holiday spirit by spending quality time together as a family. On Monday, Dion, 55, and her sons attended an exciting hockey game between the Montreal Canadiens and the Vegas Golden Knights at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The music icon shared this wonderful moment with her fans in a recent Instagram post that included rare family group shots.

In her Instagram caption, Dion expressed her excitement about the game, saying, “They played so well, what a game. Thank you for meeting us after the game, guys! That was memorable for all of us. Have a great season!” The post offered fans a glimpse of this special family outing.

The images showed Dion with her 22-year-old son René-Charles and her 13-year-old twins, Eddy and Nelson, after the game with the Montreal Canadiens. The Canadiens replied to Dion’s post with a touching message that said, “Thank you for the beautiful moment, Celine.”

This holiday meeting with her sons comes at a difficult moment for Dion’s health. She was diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome in December, a rare and incurable neurological illness that causes excruciating muscle spasms and stiffness. This illness can also cause increased tension and anxiety, mobility difficulties, and posture changes.

Painful decision made by Dion

Dion made the painful decision to cancel all of her scheduled tour dates through April 2024 in response to her illness. She announced the news in a social media press release, emphasizing her devotion to her health and her desire to return to the stage when she is ready.

A source close to Dion explained her decision to PEOPLE, saying, “The goal is for her to tour again for sure, but once she is better. Right now, she’s focusing on her health. She couldn’t keep postponing shows; it wasn’t fair to the fans.”

Meanwhile, her sister, Claudette, provided an update on her health during a conversation with Hello! Canada in August, stating, “She’s doing everything to recover. She’s a strong woman.”
