The much awaited film, The Last Duel is all set to release in India on October 22. On the same day, the theatres in the Indian state of Maharashtra are reopening after the COVID-19 lockdown. The film is directed by Ridley Scott. He is a four time Academy Award nominee. This historical drama has Oscar winner Matt Damon, Emmy winner Jodie Comer, two-time Academy Award nominee Adam Driver and two-time Oscar winner Ben Affleck as the cast.
The Last Duel is expected to be a gripping tale of betrayal and vengeance set in 14th century France. The film is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Eric Jager. While the film started in February last year, it was completed in October 2020 amid delays caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
Pictured in 14th century France, The Last Duel is a historical epic. The storyline focuses on the transition between the country’s last sanctioned duel Jean de Carrouges and Jacques Le Gris, going from being friends to sworn rivals. Marguerite de Thibouville, who claims to have been raped by her husband’s best friend, Jean de Carrouges.
Jodie Comer will play Marguerite de Thibouvill. Damon will play Comer’s husband. Adam Driver will play Jean de Carrouges. Damon and Affleck, who had famously won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for their 1997 movie Good Will Hunting, have penned the script with Nicole Holofcener. Earlier this month, the Last Duel premiered at the Venice Film Festival.
