The candy, aka Dalgona candy, is made out of coffee and sugar. It is made by melting sugar and adding baking soda to create a hard treat. The contest, which will cost $9, has begun at the Chinese bakery. The goal is to produce the candy from scratch in less than 10 minutes and carve it into various forms. The final stage of the process is very difficult since the mixture sets quickly and cracks.
In an interview with Reuters, the bakery owner says, “Our customers are mainly young people and young people make up many of this show’s fans.” The owner of the bakery is a big fan of the series. The challenge takes about 10 minutes. Participants choose metal biscuit-template shapes, melt the sugar, and add the baking soda. They then convert the mixture into shapes. The last stage is tricky because the mixture sets quickly, becoming brittle and prone to cracking.
“Just now when I was doing the first shape I thought I was doing really well,” says 27-year-old Li Zi. “But then I got to this one, and broke it,” she said, holding up two parts of a star-shaped biscuit. And then I subconsciously started shaking a little with nerves as I thought about the show.” Since the bakery added the Squid Game challenge to its menu of cake and dessert-making events last week.
