Batgirl Movie: Co-director says it's close to filming start

Adil El Arbi, the co-director of the Batgirl movie, has hinted that filming may begin soon. Arbi recently directed Bad Boys For Life with fellow co-director Bilall Fallah. It did exceptionally well for a film published in 2020 during the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. They’re also the directors of the upcoming Ms. Marvel series for Disney+, which they’re now working on for Marvel Studios. The screenplay for Batgirl has been written by Christina Hodson. She previously authored Birds of Prey and the upcoming The Flash film. The exact date of the film’s premiere in 2022 is uncertain, but it will be available only on HBO Max.

Leslie Grace will play Batgirl, it was reported earlier this year. Her previous (and first) film role was in WB’s critically acclaimed adaptation of In the Heights. While the plot for Batgirl is yet unknown, J.K. Simmons will reprise his role as Commissioner Gordon, which he last played in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The film is also likely to feature the return of Batman. However, it is unclear whether Ben Affleck, Michael Keaton, or another actor would play the Caped Crusader. Brendan Fraser plays the villain Garfield Lynns, also known as Firefly, while Jacob Scipio is now playing an unnamed character.

Adil El Arbi, the film’s co-director, has already teased the start of filming. Arbi shows off a meeting with what appears to be some of the movie’s team in a recent Instagram Stories post. (via ComicBook.com). “Getting closer to shoot,” reads the caption on the Instagram photo, implying that the movie would begin production soon.

Batgirl movie: Take a look at the following post

Despite the character’s prominence in animation and comic books, DC hasn’t given her much screen time in live-action versions. This upcoming film will be fantastic for fans of Barbara Gordon. Fans want to see a new version of her on the big screen. It also continues WB’s recent tendency of not adhering to a rigid continuity line. Simmons’ Gordon will appear. But the fact that an unknown version of Batman may also emerge indicates that they are less concerned. This could work to the film’s advantage. WB/DC has had success with films like Joker that have no connection and The Batman appears to be following suit.

Arbi’s image is an amazing new look at the much anticipated Batgirl. The picture is going to release in 2022. Hence, production will most likely begin in the coming weeks to ensure that the film meets its deadline. It’s also evident that the directors are enthusiastic about Batgirl and the encouraging film. The solo Batgirl picture is crucial for the character’s development as a director. This film appears to be moving in that direction.
