The German film All Quiet On The Western Front swept the honours with the most victories at the BAFTA film awards, which were held on Sunday night at the Royal Festival Hall in London. When the BAFTA nominations were revealed last month, the movie made history by receiving 14 nominations, the most ever for a non-English picture. During the BAFTAs, All Quiet on the Western Front won seven honours, including best film and best director. Producer Malte Grunert stated on stage, “We’ve been fortunate with so many nominations and winning this is just fantastic.
The Banshees of Inisherin was another notable winner of the evening, taking home prizes for best original screenplay, supporting actor, and supporting actress. With only one award, for outstanding editing, Everything Everywhere All at Once, a favourite for next month’s Oscars, was completely overlooked at the BAFTAs. Austin Butler earned the Best Actor BAFTA for his work in Elvis, while Cate Blanchett received the Best Actress honour for her role in T.R.
