Alec Baldwin speaks publicly for the first time after the tragic incident on the sets of Rust. While shooting, Baldwin’s prop gun misfired, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring the film’s director.

“She was my friend,” Baldwin tells photographers on Saturday on a roadside in Vermont. “We were a very, very well-oiled crew shooting a film together and then this horrible event happened.” He adds he is in ‘constant touch’ with Hutchins’ grieving family.

Alec Baldwin was accompanied by his wife Hilaria, who videotaped the interaction between him and the photographers. Baldwin described the shooting as a “one-in-a-trillion event,” adding that he had met Hutchins’ husband. “He is in shock, he has a 9-year-old son. We are in constant contact with him because we are very worried about his family and his kid. As I said, we are eagerly waiting for the sheriff’s department to tell us what their investigation has yielded.”

Earlier, Baldwin expressed this grief via Twitter. No charges have been filed. The Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department states their investigation will take some time to complete. It is unknown how the ammo ended up on the scene. “There are incidental accidents on film sets from time to time, but nothing like this. This is a one in a trillion episode,” Alec says.

“I’m not allowed to make any comments because it’s an ongoing investigation,’ says Baldwin,  informs TMZ. “The day I arrived in Santa Fe to start shooting, I took her to dinner with Joel, the director,” he adds.
