The family of Ezra Blount confirms the news of the 9-year-old’s death on Sunday. He sustained life-threatening injuries at Travis Scott’s concert on Nov. 5. The 9-Year-Old was on life support but unfortunately lost the battle between life and death.
Ben Crump, attorney for the Blount family, mentions in a statement to PEOPLE: “The Blount family tonight is grieving the incomprehensible loss of their precious young son. However, this should not have been the outcome of taking their son to a concert, which should have been a joyful celebration. Ezra’s death is absolutely heartbreaking. We commit to seeking answers and justice for the Blount family. But tonight we stand in solidarity with the family, in grief, and in prayer.”
I am sad to learn of Ezra’s death this evening
However, Treston Blount, Ezra’s father, talked to ABC13 Houston on Friday and recalls the circumstances leading up to his son’s life-threatening injuries. Which consequently left him on life support and in a medically-induced coma for more than a week, according to the outlet. “He was stoked. He was ready to go,” Blount told the Texas ABC affiliate. “When I found out that Ezra Blount was a big fan [of Travis Scott], I was like, “Oh yeah, we gotta go, we gotta go see Travis live.” “We were in the back, way in the back, and I figured, ‘Okay, this is cool,’ ’cause the front can get a little wild,” Treston says.
In a statement shared by Scott to PEOPLE on Thursday, the rapper says he and his team have been “actively exploring routes of connection with each and every family affected by the tragedy through the appropriate liaisons.” Scott adds that he’s “distraught by the situation and desperately wishes to share his condolences and provide aid to [the families] as soon as possible, but wants to remain respectful of each family’s wishes on how they’d best like to be connected.”
